Ordinary Americans to Congress: Get Health Reform Done. Now!

Today, Congress will be gaveled back into session, with leadership promising to deliver health insurance reform.  “It’s time for our representatives to finish the job,” said Rachel Weiss of NCPIRG, a consumer group that has been building grassroots support for reform.

As this Congressional session progresses, organizers from NCPIRG and its affiliates nationwide will be delivering pro-reform postcards from thousands of Americans to Members of Congress.

Weiss indicated that the postcards are intended to spur Congress to action. “Every day Congress delays, more Americans are denied care by their insurance company, more families fall into financial ruin because of an uncovered hospital bill, and with the economy struggling to pull out of the recession, another 14,000 Americans will lose their coverage every day.”

Last week, President Obama’s White House promised to seize the reins of the debate and is preparing a prime-time address to a rare joint session of Congress Wednesday intended to move the debate forward.

According to Weiss, the progress could not come soon enough. “Congress must act now to finish a bill, starting with the Senate Finance Committee. American consumers are tired of waiting.”
