MARCH
31, 2006 -- New homes are popping up in our area every day. However,
some people are learning their biggest investment is also one of the
least protected.
When the Gilbert's house in Ocean Isle was finished, they learned it had 31 building code violations.
The
couple has sued the builder, who has since filed for bankruptcy. So
even if they win in court, it's unlikely they'll get any money. Because
of the number of cases like this, it's also unlikely they'll get state
relief.
That's why the North Carolina Public Interest Research Group wants something done about the problem with construction.
